Program Description

Discover Albania through its local traditions and fascinating history on this half-day excursion to Durrës. This is a great opportunity to explore one of the country's oldest cities, sample local specialities and visit places that have played an important role on the Adriatic coast for thousands of years.

Your journey will begin with a visit to the Museum of the End of the Communist Era, the newest museums in Durrës. Here, you will step back in time and gain an insight into everyday life in Albania during the final years of the communist period. The exhibition presents this chapter of Albanian history in an engaging and accessible way, ending with a tasting of local beverages, including the country's famous brandy.

Next, you will head to the heart of Durrës, a city with more than 3,000 years of history. For centuries, it has been one of the most important ports on the Adriatic Sea and a meeting point of different cultures and civilisations. During a guided walk, you will discover the city's key landmarks and hear fascinating stories about its rich and diverse past.

One of the highlights of the tour will be a visit to the impressive Roman Amphitheatre, dating back to the 2nd century AD. It is considered one of the largest amphitheatres in the Balkans and could once accommodate up to 20,000 spectators. As you explore the site, it is easy to imagine the spectacles and events that took place here nearly two thousand years ago.

You will then stroll along the elegant Epidamn Boulevard to Freedom Square, home to the Great Mosque, one of the most recognisable landmarks of modern Durrës. This part of the tour offers a chance to experience the atmosphere of a city where history blends naturally with everyday life.

After an afternoon filled with discoveries, local flavours and Albanian culture, you will return to your hotel with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of this fascinating destination.

Please note that the order of visits and the programme may be subject to change.
