Program Description

Discover one of the most extraordinary places on La Palma on a guided trek to the Tajogaite volcano, formed during the most recent eruption in 2021. This experience offers a unique opportunity to witness how the island’s landscape has been reshaped by the forces of nature.

The tour begins with a hotel pickup and transfer to Plaza de Tajuya, which served as one of the main observation points during the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano. From here, you can see how dramatically the landscape changed after 84 days of intense volcanic activity.

You will then continue to a viewpoint located close to the solidified lava, followed by a stop at the port of Tazacorte, where you can observe the new lava flows reaching the coastline.

The journey continues to Llano del Jable and the area of the Tajogaite volcano – the youngest volcano on the island. A specially designed route allows you to explore the effects of the eruption and observe the transformation of the landscape up close.

During the approximately 2.5-hour hike, you will also see monitoring equipment used to track volcanic activity and learn how nature is gradually recovering, including the regrowth of the Canary Island pine.

At the end of the tour, you will admire views over the Aridane Valley, where you can clearly see how the environment is adapting to the new conditions.

After the excursion, you will return to your hotel.

A tiring 7 km on volcanic gravel, but the views of the still active volcano are magnificent.

An exciting trip, I wouldn`t call it trekking, although it`s 6.5 km 😁 - we go downhill, on black lava sand, wind and dirty socks guaranteed - so it`s trekking after all. But seriously: fant...
