Program Description

Travel to Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games and one of the most important religious centres of ancient Greece. This fascinating excursion offers the opportunity to discover the history of the ancient Olympic Games, explore remarkable archaeological treasures and visit the site where the Olympic flame is still lit today.

Your visit begins at the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, home to outstanding masterpieces of ancient Greek art, including works attributed to Praxiteles and Phidias. You will then explore the archaeological site, walking among the remains of one of the most significant sanctuaries of the ancient world.

See the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, which once housed the magnificent Statue of Zeus, created by Phidias and recognised as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. You'll also visit the Olympic Stadium, where the Games were held for nearly twelve centuries, and the Altar of Hera, where the Olympic flame is ceremonially lit before each modern Olympic Games.

During the excursion, you'll have the opportunity to taste locally produced olive oil. Afterwards, enjoy free time for lunch and shopping in the town centre.

English-language guiding is available only during the visit to the museum and the archaeological site.

The order of visits and the programme may be subject to change.

A great trip. An interesting place nestled in a tiny village. July might not be the best time to visit the ruins, as the temperature can be a challenge, but we managed.
